How to wear a Peplum!

Hello 80's, the peplum is back, and in a big way!

In case you're not familiar with the term, 'peplum' basically means a short flared strip of fabric that attaches to the waist or hip of a dress, blouse, jacket or skirt. And a very classy flared strip of fabric it is.

If you have been around Top Ryde City lately you would have seen peplum's in most of your favourite stores. Before you go out and buy one though, it is important to know how to wear them, which is where I come in. When shopping for anything my best advice is to always shop for your shape. Peplum's are a great trend because they work with girls of all shapes and sizes, it's just about the type you choose.

Peplum tops work for everybody. They nip in your natural waist and are perfect for creating the illusion of a flatter stomach. Peplum dresses and skirts are also great, but a bit trickier to wear. If you naturally have wider set hips then go for a smaller peplum, as to much flaring fabric can make you look larger than you actually are. If your shape is more masculine or lacking curves a larger peplum skirt or dress will create a sexy hourglass figure.

The most common style of peplum I've seen around are white peplum top's. Sheike and Bardot currently carry some fabulous options. A white peplum is basically what I would call an 'investment piece' because it can work back with a lot of your existing wardrobe. A white peplum top can be paired with blue jeans for a great day look, a bright floral skirt for a night out, or to the races if you add a stylish fascinator.

Ladies, if you're daring and want to embrace the current prints and floral trend, a bright peplum dress with a floral or digital print is definitely a show stopper. Fitting the current season trends, peplums in pastel tones are also a great look and create a softer and more feminine look.

Head to our Facebook to see my 'Trend alert' on peplum's and to check out how girls have been wearing them (Gaga and the Kardashian's are big fans). Below you can see some of my favourite peplum looks from our retailers in the centre.

Happy shopping!
